The Ipswich Motorway Upgrade – Stage 1 Rocklea to Darra involved 3.3 km of Motorway widening and raising, by up to 3 metres, to alleviate regular flooding during wet weather. The scope included new bridges over sensitive environmental creeks / waterways, retrofitting of Managed Motorways and ITS west of the project to the Centenary Highway, challenging traffic management, staging to minimise impacts with heavy traffic and regular interfacing with local residents, Brisbane City Council and adjacent businesses.

Scope of Work

The Ipswich Motorway is one of the Queensland’s busiest arterials linking Brisbane city southern suburbs to Ipswich, carrying approximately 90,000 vehicles per day.

The project was the first TMR project to be designed and constructed using BIM. The project was also the first TMR project to trial LEAN construction processes.
